A SCRIP order form is being sent home in your child’s folder today.  If you have an order, please return it to school by 8:00 AM on Monday, February 27th.

Our Girls’ basketball season has begun.  Our first home game is tomorrow against Storer.  Come out and support our Lady Rams!!

The students in our Sacrament class from Grade Two will have their First Penance on Saturday.  Please keep these students in your prayers.

As you all know the season of Lent starts today.  All of the students have chosen something to give up and/or extra to do during this special time.  Ask your child what he/she has chosen.

Our school project for Lent is to collect baby food for A Better Way.  We will collect until March 4th

The first part of the ISTEP+ test will be given to the students in Grades Three, Four, and Five during the week of March 5th.  If your child is in one of these grades please be sure that your child is here on time every day.  Also, please do not schedule doctor or dentist appointments during this week.  Thank you for your help with this.

Katie Hunter in Grade Four and lots of her friends are making crafts to be sold after school on Friday, March 2nd.  All the proceeds from the sale will be donated to ARF.  This is the third year that Katie has done this fundraiser.  We are so proud of all of our students who help with this project!

Happy Catholic Schools Week!  I want to thank all of you for helping us with this special week.  I look forward to seeing all of our volunteers tomorrow for coffee and doughnuts after Morning Gathering.

The calendar for next year has been set.  It will be sent to you later today as an attachment.  I will also send home a hard copy. I can’t believe that it is time to do this already!

Speaking of next year we are already starting to get calls from new families about enrolling their children in our school.  In addition to this, the state will open the application process for Choice Scholarships (vouchers) on February 17th.  We have several classes that are full or close to full now.  Because of all this we need to know as soon as possible if you plan to send your child back to St. Lawrence School next year so that we can make plans.  A form will be sent home today in your child’s folder.  It will need to be returned to the office by Wednesday, February 15th along with a $50.00 per family deposit.  This will guarantee your child’s spot for next year.  Also, if you have another child who will be entering Kindergarten or Pre-School next year please indicate this on the form.  The deposit will be applied to your book fees next fall.  If your child currently has a Choice Scholarship (voucher) you do not need to send in a deposit, but we do need the form to be returned.  If you are the parent of a Fifth Grader, please indicate if you anticipate your child going on to Pope John Paul II Middle School.  A deposit is not required for this.

Our annual Spelling Bee will be held next Tuesday at 9:00 AM in the school chapel.

Year book order forms will be sent home soon.  Next Wednesday, February 8th, the photographer will be here to take pictures of all our teams and clubs as well as the Science Fair, Spelling Bee, and Geography Bee winners. Please be sure to send your child to school on this day with their ribbons, trophies, choir shirts, team shirts, Girl Scout sashes, etc.

Below is a link to a brief survey.  It should only take a few minutes of your time.  Thank you for your help with this.

The Science Fair winners will be announced at the PTO meeting tonight at 6:30.  Please take your children to the Daycare room.  There will be a brief business meeting in the cafeteria.  Then the children will join us and the winners will be announced.  After this we will all go to the gym to see the wonderful projects that your children have done.  The projects must be removed from the gym tonight because there are classes in there tomorrow.  I look forward to seeing you all tonight.

A SCRIP order form is being sent home with your child today.  Please return it to the school office by 8:00 AM on Monday.

Please remember that if your child wears boots to school, he/she must have a regular pair of shoes to change into.  Also only white, navy, or tan socks and white or navy tights may be worn.

Next week we are switching the lunch menu for Monday and Tuesday.  The lunch scheduled for Monday will be served on Tuesday and the lunch scheduled for Tuesday will be served on Monday.

Next week is a very special week.  It is important that all the students be at the Big Church for the 4:30 PM Mass on Saturday.  The students will sit where they usually sit on big Church days.  I know this is not a regular school day.  I really appreciate you getting your children to church on this day.

Below is the Catholic Schools Week Schedule.  There is a lot going on.  Please keep this handy so you know what we are doing and what your child is to wear each day.  Also, we need drivers for several things next week.  If you are not driving for your child’s class, but are still available to help, please call the office and let Mrs. Miller know when you are able to drive and how many children you are able to take.  Thanks for your help with this.

Our Geography Bee was held yesterday.  The questions were very hard and the students did a great job.  It was obvious that they had studied hard for this event.  Our winner was Emma Davis.  She answered every question correctly!!  Our runner-up was Michael Biehl.  Congratulations to all who participated.

We will start our annual School Mall fundraiser next week. You do not have to sell anything, collect any money, or deliver anything.  Next Tuesday your child will be sent home with a booklet of 6 postcards.  We ask that you fill out the postcards with the names and addresses of family members and friends and return the booklet back to school on Wednesday, January 19th.  Then we send all the cards back to the company and they send them to the people to whom you addressed them.  The envelope will have the postcard and a brochure for magazines. We will receive $2.25 for every 6 cards that are filled out plus 35% of all paid orders.  Every child who turns in a complete booklet will win a prize and his/her name will be put into a drawing for a robot.  Please help us raise money for our tuition assistance fund.

There is no school on Monday, January 16th in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Report Cards will be sent home on Wednesday, January 18th.

The Science Fair will be held on Wednesday, January 25th.  The winners will be announced at the PTO meeting at 6:30 PM that evening.

If you shop at Marsh or Main Street Market you can help us earn points to buy equipment for our school.  A flyer explaining how you can do this was sent home in your child’s folder today.  Just fill out the flyer and return it to school.  Thank you for your help with this.

Our Advent Program is tonight at 6:00 PM in the school gym.  Unless your child is wearing a costume (your child’s teacher will let you know this), your child should wear Sunday best or Christmas clothes.  This means they should be dressed up – no jeans, t-shirts, football or basketball jerseys, etc.   Please drop your child off in the school chapel by 5:40 PM.  Also, please keep your child’s coat with you.

The PTO has arranged for a special visitor to be here following the Advent Program.  St. Nicholas will have a small gift for each child and will be available if you would like to take a picture of your child with him.

Our Boys’ basketball team had our first win yesterday afternoon.  We beat St. Mary’s 27 – 18.  We play at Grissom tomorrow at 3:15.  Our last regular season home game will be on Tuesday, January 3rd.  Come out and cheer on our Rams.

Friday is a free Casual Day.  We will also have our Advent parties on this day.

School resumes on Tuesday, January 3rd.

I want to thank you all for everything you do for our school.  We could not do everything that we do without the support of our families.

I wish you all a blessed and joyous Christmas!!!

We have Mass at the Big Church this week on Thursday, December 8th.  Please drop your child off at St. Lawrence Church at the corner of Jackson and Hackley Streets by 7:50 AM.

I cannot believe how fast this year is flying by!!!  Our Advent Program will be next Wednesday, December 14th at 6:00 PM in the school gym.

Mrs. Guntle, our Art teacher, has made a beautiful Nativity Set that we will be selling by silent auction at the Advent program.  A note was sent home about this on Monday.  If you would like to see the set before the program, it is on display in the case outside the Art Room.

Our boy’s basketball team had their first game yesterday.  We play at Storer tomorrow and our next home game is next Tuesday.  Come out and support our Rams!

We will be sending in one more SCRIP order before Christmas Break.  The order forms were sent home with your children on Wednesday.  Please return your order forms to school by 8:00 AM on Monday, December 12th.

As you all know, Mrs. Thornburg has had her baby and is no longer with us.  Mrs. Kress has taken her place as Teacher’s Aide.  Before this Mrs. Kress was our volunteer lunch and recess supervisor.  We need your help in filling in this spot.  Unfortunately the children cannot go out for recess if we do not have two adults with them. If you can help supervise lunch and recess any day please call Mrs. Miller and let her know what days you can help.  The hours are 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM.  This is a great way to get your Tuition+ hours in.

Our St. Lawrence School mission is to provide a Catholic Christ-centered education through an atmosphere of love and compassion for all students.
